Second Annual Piqua Witches' Ball
The Second Annual Piqua Witches’ Ball was held this past weekend (Nov. 4) in Piqua, Ohio. Sponsored by Heritage Temple, the Ball was a great success and enjoyed by all.
The Ball was held at the Best Western Inn Troy, Ohio.

There was a large crowd including many families with small children. Throughout the night the children amused themselves dancing and playing with the balloons and streamers which decorated the room.
A sumptuous buffet was served including fruits, vegetables and dip, salsas, meatballs, mini-quiches, and other hors d’oeuvres.
Vending tables offered a variety of goods including altar cloths, bags, ceramics, oils, and other Pagan themed products. A DJ provided music and the dance floor remained busy throughout the night. |
There were many familiar faces as well as new friends to meet.
Lady Debbe and Lord Rodney, Joint Heads of Heritage Temple, and all their people had worked very hard to create a memorable event, and the hard work paid off wonderfully.
Several times during the evening the music was stopped for contests of various sorts.
The first was for the kids: a contest to break the piñata.
A Jack O' Lantern shaped Piñata was prepared for the children, who took turns swinging at it with a baseball bat until shattering it and releasing the candy inside.

As always the costume contest was a high point in the evening.
The children’s contest was held first, with quite a large number of contestants. There were several great children’s costumes including the little dragon, the ladybug and bumblebee siblings, Harry Potter, an excellent Sailor Boy, and the elegant Silver Princess –but the winner was the Fairy Princess who was universally agreed to be quite adorable |
Next the adult costume contest ensued, with contestants parading around the room. There were many excellent costumes including several fairies, a number of renaissance gowns, Two White Angels, a Large Horned Whatsit, and everyone’s favorite party boy: Death.
Prizes were awarded for Sexiest Costume, Most Original Costume, and Best Overall Costume.
The winner for Most Original was Rhonda, and Best Overall Costume was won by Jasin Franco also as a White Angel.
But of course the Broomstick Riding Contest was the piece de resistance of the evening. As you know in the Broomstick Riding Contest each contestant is given a broom and asked to “ride” it in whatever fashion they choose. Contestants are often quite creative. For this year Rev. Rodney had specially made a broom for the contest. Numerous contestants took their turn. An unusually large number of people took part in the Broomstick Riding Contest –perhaps owing to the judges having gone into the audience to draft likely contestants. |
There were also auctions of various items including four dolls dressed in handmade Correllian robes made by Debbie Dysinger and bought by Lady Traci: and a handmade cloak in the heraldic colors of Heritage Temple (green and gray) bought by Mr. Death. There were also a large number of doorprizes. It was a great event! Congratulations to everyone at Heritage Temple for another successful Witches’ Ball and thank you for all your hard work! |
